Government encourages tourism from the Netherlands

Representatives from the Costa Rican Institute of Tourism are attending the Vakantierbeurs tourism fair from January 9 to 13 in the city of Utrecht in the Netherlands.

The institute says that representatives are attending the fair to offer wide and varied tourism experiences in Costa Rica, spotlighting the sun and beach, adventure, nature and health campaigns like “Wellness Pura Vida.”

"Vakatierbeurs is one of the most important fairs in that European country, one of the most important markets of the old continent," the institute said in its statement.

Joining the institute, there are also private tour companies, promoting trips to the country. Costa Rica had a stand of 100 square meters at the fair decorated with the essence of Costa Rica, including a series of photographs stand out, as well as large format screens to share “the places and activities that cannot be missed in Costa Rica."

Ireth Rodríguez, head of promotion for the institute, said that participation in the Vakantierbeurs is the starting signal for the program of international fairs of the year 2019.

"For the Costa Rican Tourism Institute it is very important to start the annual participation plan in international fairs with the participation in this tourism and travel fair in the Netherlands," said Rodriguez.

In 2018, the institute registered more than 30 thousand tourists from the Netherlands that is 8 percent more compared to 2017.

There are currently direct flights from the Amsterdam to San Jose with the KLM airline.

In 2018 the institute registered more than 30
thousand tourists from the Netherlands.

The main reasons for a tourist from the Netherlands to visit Costa Rica are "the enjoyment of our beaches, the performance of outdoor activities such as nature walks and hanging or canopy bridges; the watchers of flora and fauna, the visit to volcanoes and the visit to thermal waters, among others," said the institute.

The coming international tourism fairs in which the institute will participate will be FITUR in Spain, New York Times Travel Show in the United States and FESPO in Switzerland.
