The Gas stations Chamber known as Fuel Entrepreneurs Chamber, confirmed on Tuesday that they will not cause problems for customers and will continue to receiving payments with debit or credit cards.

José Miguel Masís, director of the chamber, confirmed that after talks with executives of the Ministry of Finance, he hopes that the error of collecting taxes on gasoline sales will be resolved soon.

"We were waiting for the Ministry of Finance to recognize that there was an error in that procedure. According to what they told us, that error was already corrected, and the banks were also notified, so they would not make the retention on taxes for payments with cards." said Masís.

In addition, Mr. Masís confirmed that "the Chamber is making an inquiry to all members to verify if all payments with cards are no longer registering that problem".

The problem with taking payments with credit or debit cards stared Monday when members of the Chamber detected that, since January first, banks were withholding 7.31 percent of sales as response of the request of the Ministry of Finance.

According to the Ministry of Finance "Banks were ordered not to apply that retention."

The problem stared Monday when was detected that banks were withholding 7.31 percent of gas sales.

The Chamber stated that fuel sales are exempt of sales taxes and the Finance Ministry should not request banks to retain part of the payment. The situation has returned to normal and purchases of gas can be paid with cards or cash.
