Traffic police call for precautions during construction in traffic circle in San José |

The transit police are calling on drivers to take precautions for the construction of the overpass at the traffic circle in San Jose*. According to the traffic police report, drivers who transit the route from traffic circle to San Pedro must divert to the central lanes as marked by police. Traffic deviation to the traffic circle Y Griega* will continue today. “This deviation of the cars is necessary for the construction of the ramps of the new overpass of the traffic circle," the police said in its statement. Carlos Jiménez, Manager of the Executing Unit, said that "the transfer of the Social Guarantees monument, deviation of public services and tree removal has already been completed and ramp construction can now be started". They are now constructing the pipeline and will start work on the center of the traffic circle. As A.M. Costa Rica reported on Jan 15th, President Alvarado announced that this new project is being financed by a loan of $17.6 million from the Central American Bank for Economic Integration. Alvarado said that the work is important for "the economic reactivation of the country. I appreciate the effort and dedication of the Public Works Minister, Rodolfo Mendéz, to advance decisively in these projects." Minister of Public Works, Rodolfo Méndez, said the overpass will have six lanes, three in each direction (upper step) and two in each direction in the lower area for a total of 500 meters in length. The viaduct will have a length of 864 meters, with an overpass of 550 meters. Throughout the process, traffic police will maintain a presence to regulate access to the work areas in order to guarantee the free flow of vehicles. Drivers are advised to try to use alternative routes that avoid the construction area. The work will be developed in four phases: 1. Transfer of the monument of Social Guarantees, tree removal and relocation of public services is already finished. |

Construction of west and east ramps enabling central lanes to maintain the flow of traffic during the construction stage begins this week. 3. Work on the bridge on pre-excavated piles and beam header, modification of the current rotunda, construction of a bridge 103 meters long and re-installation of the monument to Social Guarantees. 4. Construction of the overpass. The main shaft will be excavated and the bridge and pylon screens must be built. Transit on Route 39 will be maintained on the ramps previously built, with two lanes in each direction. According to the ministry's work plan, construction is scheduled to be completed in 12 months and will require approximately 120 workers.
