Costa Rica reiterates its strong commitment to democracy and human rights |

The Venezuelan government, through Jorge Arreaza Montserrat, Venezuelan chancellor, delivered a letter to Danilo Ramírez González, who is in charge of Costa Rica's business in Venezuela. The letter came as a response to the Lima Group’s rejection of Nikolas Maduro, Venezuelan president. According to the Venezuelan chancellery, "Chancellor Jorge Arreaza delivered a note of protest to the manager of business of the Republic of Costa Rica, Danilo Ramírez in rejection of the interventionist declaration of the Lima Group." The reaction of the Venezuela government comes after Costa Rica, as a member of the Lima Group, rejected the new government of Nicolas Maduro. In response, the Costa Rican Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed, "a note was received from the Government of Venezuela that refers to the Declaration of the Group of Lima on January 4." The ministry confirms that Costa Rica maintains its agreements with the countries of the Lima Group by not recognizing the legitimacy of the new period of the Nicolás Maduro regime. With regard to Nicaragua, the ministry said it gave support to the “Inter-American Democratic Letter" that is being analyzed in the Permanent Council of the Organization of American States. That international agreement letter is for the ejection of Nicaragua from the organization. |
