Coastguard rescues Hungarian and British tourists of a kayak accident |

Costa Rica staff Last Friday, the National Coast Guard Service reported the rescue of two tourists, a British woman and a Hungarian man, who were sailing in kayak at Manzanillo Beach*, near the Gandoca Manzanillo National Park in Limon* on the Atlantic coast. The rescuers report, "the emergency call was received about three people who were making a kayak tour at Manzanillo Beach*. For reasons that are still unknown, the three people were dragged by the current.” Two tourists were rescued, but lifeguards could not find the tour guide. The tourists were attended by a Red Cross team and were reported to be in good physical condition. The names of the tourists were not reported as neither carried a passport. Sunday afternoon the rescuers continued searching for the tour guide. Related on tourist water accidents, on Christmas day the Coast Guard rescued two tourists were in a kayak that was sinking. The kayak was in the area where the Italian ship 'Fella' sank in the sea in front of Paseo de los Turistas road in Puntarenas*. The names and nationalities of the men could not be ascertained as neither carried any identification. Same day, but on Jacó Beach*, the Red Cross reported that a U.S. citizen drowned. He was identified as Craig Stettner, age 53. He was swimming with his family when he was carried away by a riptide. |
