Government gives 52 properties titles to families living in poverty |

 By A.M. Costa Rica staff The Institute of Social Aid granted property titles to 52 families living in poverty in 2018. With deeds in hand, families will be able to access credit to improve the houses. One of the beneficiaries, José Rivera, who obtained his property title in April, said "I had 25 years of living in this property without having the title, but I knew how important it was, that's why we started the procedures, for that I waited like three months. A property title gives me a lot of tranquility." The benefit of a property title is provided at no cost to the beneficiary. In 2018 the institution completed the property title transfer of 72 pieces of land for the benefit of families, for the common use of different municipalities or to be used as areas for the water mains of the Costa Rican Institute of Aqueducts and Sewers. The land transferred to families living in poverty belonged to the Institute but the total value of the land was about ₡224,550,165 colones ($371,361). Maria Fullmen, Executive President of the Institute, said, "We understand that land titling is urgent, especially in some areas of the country and with our work we seek to put an end to those years of waiting that have become decades for many families. With land titling, both families and the state earn. For example, with a property as a backup, the beneficiaries are subject to credit by the financial entities and that, in most cases, allows them to improve their homes." |
