The
vice minister of Economy, Laura
Pacheco, has filed a complaint
at the Gender Prosecutor's
office against Julio Solís,
director of the Ministry of
Justice and Peace. The
allegation is sexual abuse.
According to the complaint, the
abuse occurred Jan. 26, in a
meeting at the home of Marcia
González, minister of
Justice. Solís resigned
his director post Friday.
The complaint is in the initial
phase of analysis in the Public
Prosecutor's office, so it was
determined that all information
on this phase is private,
officials said.
However, Vice Minister Pacheco
posted a message related to this
accusation on her Facebook page.
"Yesterday I went to the
Prosecutor's Office of Gender to
do what belongs to women when a
person, regardless of their
socioeconomic position, work or
hierarchy, believes to have the
freedom and power to dispose of
our bodies. It is a subject that
I have kept in the private and
personal area, and I did not
expect in any way to make public
something so painful.” she said.
Violence against women, she said
“is unacceptable from any point
of view. We live it every day,
and it manifests itself in
multiple ways. I was not willing
to be part of the people who try
to normalize these behaviors in
society when we know that they
are crimes that mark deep wounds
in the lives of women.”
Encouraging women who suffer
sexual violence, Vice Minister
Pacheco said “at this moment I
sympathize with all the
courageous people who do not
remain silent and who have put
the respective denunciations
before acts of aggression. Also
all my support to the victims
who today feel fear, who have
not managed to overcome acts
that are deeply painful, and
that due to the prejudices of
society, have not been
encouraged to denounce.”
And related to his case, Vice
Minister Pacheco said she trust
on the justice will solve her
case “ I trust in the Justice of
this country, in the attention
to my case and that of all the
women who have raised their
voices, shouting to society that
we are going to stop this only
if we denounce. I do it for me,
I do it for everyone. "

According

The
Minister of Justice,
Marcia González,
confirmed that Solís
resigned his job
Friday.
". . . Solís submitted
his irrevocable
resignation and with
immediate effect to
the position of
director of Peace,
which I accepted
because I believe that
he is not compatible
with the efforts made
by this ministry to
eradicate the
different types of
violence that they
live in society," said
Minister González.
In addition, Minister
Gonzalez said that she
supports Vice Minister
Pacheco. "In relation
to the complaint
lodged by Ms. Laura
Pacheco against Julio
Solís, I reiterate
that the position of
this government is to
support women who
suffer from any type
of violence," she
said.
Solis, now the former
director of Peace, has
not made any kind of
statement about the
allegation of sexual
abuse. The nature of
the accusation also
has not been made
public.
