The Legislative Assembly announced that 10 legislators have accepted the invitation of the government of the United States and will participate in an eight day trip to Washington, D.C.

During their stay in U.S., they will participate in training and exchange ideas and experiences on matters of governance and security.

This program is designed for female legislators and will take place from January 12 to 19. "The government of the United States granted 10 spaces to our country that will be occupied by deputies of the different parties of the congress," said the Legislative Assembly statement.

The legislators that will attend the congress are:

-Carolina Hidalgo, president of the Costa Rican Congress.

-Laura Guido of the ruling party Partido Accion Ciudadana.

-Ana Delgado, María Corrales and Karine Niño of the National Liberation Party.

-Maria Monge, deputy of the Social Christian Unity party.

-Zoila Volio, deputy of the National Integration Party.

-Nidia Céspedes, Marolin Azofeifa and Ivonne Acuña, independent deputies.

Some of the topics to be covered involve the role of women in political processes.

"The challenges in terms of security and governance for Costa Rica not only affect women's lives and daily lives in a sensitive way, but they are also matters in which the conversation needs to be expanded, including new voices for reflection and action, especially voices of women," said the Legislative Assembly statement.

Interest in this program highlights the attention that women in legislature have as regards to training, updating information, and learning about the theories and international public policies of security and governance to strengthen the performance in government.
