A 14 year old girl, surnamed Johnson, was given emergency aid by a Red Cross team after a tree fell on her. She was then rushed from Heredia* to Hospital Mexico in La Uruca in San José* by helicopter-ambulance.

Alfredo Mulato of the Red Cross said that an emergency call about a group of tourists was received at 8 a.m. Miss Johnson, who was visiting the tourist center Jardines de la Catarata*, was among those hurt when strong winds caused a tree to fall on the group. Most escaped with minor injuries, but the 14 year old was seriously hurt.

When Unit M-67 of Heredia arrived at the scene they found that Miss Johnson had been hit by multiple branches and had a serious blow to her head.  

"The rescuers proceeded to give her first aid in the area, then she was sent in the M-67 ambulance to the sports plaza in Vara Blanca* in Heredia, where the ambulance helicopter took her to the Hospital Mexico in La Uruca. Her condition at that time was classified as red." said Mulato.

Rescuers reported that an adult, apparently her father, accompanied the girl on the helicopter trip to the Hospital Mexico where she was attended by emergency room specialists.
