President Carlos Alvarado ended his participation in the 49th edition of the World Economic Forum, in Davos, Switzerland on Thursday.

The World Economic Forum (WEF), based in Cologny-Geneva, Switzerland, was founded in 1971. The Forum's mission is cited as, "committed to improving the state of the world by engaging business, political, academic, and other leaders of society to shape global, regional, and industry agendas.



According to the Presidential House, the president had several meetings and participated in the forum: "Reducing the gender gap: accelerating the path to equity."

Part of the forum analyzed the existing gaps between the rights of men and women, and created strategies to find a social and economic balance between men and women.



In relation to Costa Rica, the president spoke on his goals of reducing unemployment, poverty and inequality between men and women are part of his development plan for the 2019-2022.



"The reduction of unemployment implies increasing the level of productivity and the labor inclusion of women. The participation of women in labor markets and the growth of women's labor supply are essential requirements to stop inequality," said President Alvarado.



The president also met with Ignazio Cassis, Switzerland's foreign minister. At the meeting, they analyzed Costa Rica’s progress toward becoming part of The Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development.
