By the A.M. Costa Rica staff
Texas-based Kimberly-Clark, a company specialized in the development of health, hygiene, and personal care products, donated $15,000 to Social Security to assist the covid-19 outbreak in the country.
According to the Ministry of Health report, on Monday there are 337 active covid-19 patients in the country.
According to the company, these funds support the initiative led by the Costa Rican American Chamber of Commerce, AmCham, in association with the Business Development Alliance, BDA, and the Costa Rican - USA Foundation for Cooperation, CRUSA.
The purpose is to provide Social Security with portable diagnostic equipment and test kits for the early detection of covid-19 in the country.
The donation is a result of the "Together We Transform" campaign that aims to donate 40 diagnostic kits valued at $12,000 each and at least 10,000 covid-19 test kits, which cost $62 each.
"We want to collaborate proactively with the country's efforts to detect early the coronavirus and join efforts within the private sector to reactivate the economy," said Gonzalo Uribe, vice president for the northern region of Latin America at Kimberly-Clark.
The company also delivered 100,000 wet towels and 369,000 Huggies diapers to the Food Bank, a non-governmental organization that distributes these essential products in the most vulnerable communities. Currently, this entity benefits more than 40,000 people in conditions of extreme poverty, said Kimberly-Clark in its statement.
“We partnered with the Food Bank to contribute and reach those who need it most," added Uribe. "This way, we fulfill the mission of improving the quality of people's lives through essential products."
The company recently announced the donation of $8 million worth of personal hygiene product and monetary aid - to support recovery efforts of the covid-19 worldwide.
This is the second donation handled by AmCham with the support of international companies.

On April 29, the “Proactive Testing covid-19 in Costa Rica” campaign organized by AmCham, CRUSA and BDA, achieved the goal of donating to Social Security high-tech machines and test kits to diagnose those infected with covid-19.
"Thanks to the support of more than 350 companies and people, it was possible to raise funds to donate 40 machines and almost 30,000 test kits," said AmCham in its statement.
According to AmCham, the campaign continues to collect donations to reach their ultimate goal of donating 20 high-tech machines and 200,000 covid-19 test kits to Social Security.
"The exceptional support received by the private sector will allow Social Security to implement decentralized tests throughout the country," said Gisela Sánchez, president of AmCham.
According to Benjamín Vargas, President of CRUSA, this donation is "a decisive contribution to public health and an indispensable step to initiate economic recovery for the benefit of all."
According to AmCham, donations from companies and members of the chamber exceeded the initial goal of $750,000 and reached $1,808,387. The fund will be used to purchase more machines and test kits to diagnose the virus throughout the whole country. The Testing Proactive website provides further information about this campaign.
