Free online digital
programming courses

By the A.M. Costa Rica staff

The Germany-based Systems, Applications, and Products in Data Processing company, SAP, announced a new, free digital training initiative that will offer innovative and interactive educational content.

SAP is a high technology company with branches in more than 120 countries. In Costa Rica, the company has opened its offices in Escazú Canton, located in San José Province since 2010.

The platform is designed for students over the age of 16, as well as for professionals and other adults who would like to further their learning during the covid-19 pandemic emergency.

According to SAP, the platform offers about 90% of courses exclusively in English. The other 10% are available in Spanish and other languages.

This tool represents an incredible opportunity for high school seniors, college students, and others interested in learning new technological skills, said SAP in its statement.

“We are committed to student education and training during the transitional phase we are currently experiencing," said Randall Quiros, President of SAP Central America and the Caribbean. "That’s why we’re launching a safe and healthy learning environment, and thus continuing our training programs virtually while promoting innovation.”

The platform offers users three types of training courses: Massive Open Online Courses or MOOC on general topics of use to anyone interested. There is SAP Young Thinkers, a program aimed at high school students. And a training program specifically for university students. All course offerings may be accessed via the open SAP platform.

The MOOCs are free online. They are available to anyone interested in learning about leading technologies, the latest innovations, and the digital economy. Course topics include automated robotic process automation, data science, machine learning, ethical artificial intelligence, the Internet of Things (IoT), sustainability, Java programming, and more.

The Young Thinkers program helps students and teachers cope with school closings. SAP Young Thinkers training courses, including the “Get Coding with Snap” introductory course, are now available online and via open access.

SAP Young Thinkers provides a foundation for digital literacy, with the goal of inspiring the next generation to pursue careers in the fields of STEAM (science, technology, engineering, the arts, and mathematics). Students and newcomers to computing can explore creative methodologies and technologies to help create a better world.

Also for 90 days, SAP will provide access to four selected learning pathways for students interested in digitally preparing themselves to pursue careers within the SAP ecosystem and/or those who wish to study at one of the more than 3,800 affiliate universities in the SAP University Alliances program. Areas of study include SAP S/4HANA, SAP S/4HANA Cloud Finance solution, SAP SuccessFactors Employee Central, and modeling in SAP HANA.

These course offerings are designed specifically for university students and are available free of charge. They include several learning formats in different languages, as well as free access to training systems for practice.

These tools will help students prepare for an exam to earn global SAP certification in specific areas.
