By the A.M. Costa Rica staff
Costa Rican company Establishment Labs made the second donation of reusable face shields to 30 different organizations with health workers, announced the firm on Wednesday.
"The donation was made to assist workers in these institutions as they continue to deal with the covid-19 pandemic, as well as to protect high-risk populations such as the elderly," said the firm in its statement.
This donation of more than 1,800 reusable face shields for the staff of the selected organizations including the Ministry of Health, the Costa Rican Association of Alzheimer and Other Dementias, the Santiago Crespo Calvo Nursing Home, the Alfredo, and Delia González Flores Nursing Home, the Carlos María Ulloa Nursing Home, the Nursing Home of Piedades de Santa Ana, among others.
The face shields were designed in alliance with the Bionic Foundation and assembled by a team of 45 Establishment Labs employees. The face shields provide full-face coverage. They are made of high-caliber transparent PSAI, and are reusable following simple cleaning and disinfecting procedures.

In April, the company made the first donation of 1,000 plastic reusable face-shields. Those medical supplies were distributed to the Ministry of Health and the National Psychiatric Hospital, in order to support the work carried out by the government during the covid-19 pandemic.
The face shields are made of high-caliber clear PVC and are reusable after being cleaned with soap and water, chlorine, or alcohol.
"Our work has always been supported by the purpose of promoting the health and well-being of our patients and for this reason, we consider it fundamental to be able to contribute, as a corporate citizen, to the emergency facing the country due to covid-19," said Juan José Chacón, CEO of the company that manufactures silicone gel-filled breast implants.
