Lifesciences donated $80,000 for the
prevention of covid-19By the A.M. Costa Rica staff The California-based Edwards Lifesciences Corp made donations totaling $80,000 through its foundation, to Costa Rica Food Bank, two elders' nursery homes, and to support the measures of prevention due to the increase of covid-19 cases in the country. Currently, there 337 active covid-19 patients in the country, reported the ministry of Health on Monday. “To Edwards it’s highly important for the well-being of the communities where our employees live and work, which is why it was approved the monetary donation to nonprofit organizations we know are going to help people, that because of the crisis, are going through a hard time or are part of a high-risk population to the covid-19," said Josue Campos, Edwards Lifesciences General Manager in Costa Rica. The foundation directly donated to nonprofit organizations: $50,000 to the Costa Rica Food Bank, $10,000 to the elderly nursery home Asilo de Ancianos, and $10,000 to elderly nursery home the Hogar Manos de Jesús, both in Cartago Province. Additionally, the company provided another $10,000 to buy testing equipment to detect the covid-19 via an initiative promoted by the Costa Rican American Chamber of Commerce, AmCham. Furthermore, an initiative promoted by the company's employees, donations are being made to purchase food and first need supplies for people in the state of vulnerability in the area of the Cartago Province. They will also be delivered by the Fundación Unidos por un Corazón, which may be rendered as "We are united by a heart " in the English language. ![]() In Oct. 2019, the firm that produces technology for the treatment of heart diseases announced the expansion in Costa Rica with an investment of more than $100 million and 500 new jobs by the end of 2020. This investment will be dedicated to a new and more advanced plant located in the La Lima Free Zone industrial park, in the province of Cartago. This new plant, together with the existing one within the same industrial park, expands the firm's capacity to produce finished products, said the corporation in its statement. In Costa Rica, the company develops cardiac implants for the treatment of patients in medical centers around the world. The U.S. corporation opened operations in Costa Rica in 2016, as an additional plant in its global network that has locations in the U.S. and Singapore. The company expects to grow in Costa Rica until it reaches 1,100 employees by the end of this year. There are vacancies in operational, technical and administrative positions. The positions available correspond to the areas of facilities, engineering, human resources, finance, technical training, supply chain and logistics, quality, purchasing, microbiology and chemistry. For operational positions, the requirements are the nine year of approved schooling, good motor and manual skills, as well as ease of following instructions.
