transmission of covid-19
in Pavas District results negative By the A.M. Costa Rica staff Community transmission in Pavas District was ruled out, the ministry reported on Tuesday. An investigation conducted by specialists from the Ministry of Health and Social Security, for the detection of covid-19 in the zone, resulted in negative. Community transmission is when there is no clear source of origin of the infection in a new community. It happens when experts can no longer identify who became infected after being exposed to someone who interacted with people from the originally infected communities. According to the data provided by Daniel Salas, Minister of Health, 1,201 diagnostic tests were performed, of these only 4.5% were positive- 54 people tested positive for covid-19, 27 men and 27 women. Of the people tested, 1,052 were tested inside their homes or workplaces, and 149 came to the health post to request the test. "A community broadcast occurs when there is a positive result of 10% -15%," said Minister Salas. "In this case, we are clear that there have been some local transmissions, but they have not maintained chains of community transmission." The special four-day sanitary operation in Pavas was carried out in communities and companies in the area where no cases have been reported. More than 100 specialists from Social Security, the Ministry of Security, the Traffic Police, the Ministry of Health, the National Emergency Commission, the Municipality of San José and the Ministry of Economy participated in this special operation. Last week the National Emergency Commission declared an Orange Alert onto the Pavas District. The alert applies to businesses, allowing them to attend the public, from 5 a.m. to 5 p.m. The commerce restriction schedule does not apply in supermarkets, pharmacies, or small grocery stores and health services, better known as Pulperías. Also, the ban on driving applies every day, Monday to Sunday from 5 p.m. to 5 a.m. of the next day, explained Alexander Solís, president of the Commission. According to Salas, situations like the one in Pavas need the commitment of residents, businesses and institutions to prevent the spread of the virus. "We recommend that the people of Pavas use a mask at all times, in addition to social distancing and hygiene measures," he said. The next special health operation will take place in the communities of Alajuelita and La Carpio in San José Province. -------------------------- What other community should specialists conduct mass covid-19 diagnostic operations?
