Embassy delivers medical supplies donation to
Social SecurityBy the A.M. Costa Rica staff The Chinese Embassy announced on Tuesday the delivery of the first shipment of medical supplies donated to Social Security. According to the embassy, 2,500 covid-19 test kits, known as PCRs produced by the Chinese company BGI Group were delivered as the first part of the donation of supplies to the country. These test kits are licensed by the Chinese National Administration of Medical Products and approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, FDA, said the Chinese Embassy in its statement. "We reemphasize our solidarity with the Costa Rican people in this gunless war against covid-19," said a representative from the Chinese embassy. "Together we will conquer the pandemic!" Last week, on March 23, the Chinese government announced the donation of medical supplies to Social Security through the Jack Ma Foundation and Alibaba Foundation. This donation consists of medical supplies, such as surgical masks, coronavirus covid-19 detection test kits and five CPAP machines with a hose and mask or nosepiece for constant and steady air pressure. Last week, another country also provided a donation of medical supplies to Social Security. On Friday the U.S. government delivered the first of two donations. ![]() According to the U.S. Embassy, the donation is made through a Southern Command, SOUTHCOM, humanitarian assistance program. The donation valued at $75,000 consists of personal protective equipment purchased from local suppliers in Costa Rica, such as surgical masks, isolation gowns, surgical gloves, goggles, and N-95 medical masks. The second donation of supplies will be delivered to Social Security within the next two weeks, according to the U.S. Embassy. ![]() In China, their government has announced the start of medical testing for a possible coronavirus covid-19 vaccine. According to the report by Radio China, the official government radio media, the vaccine is undergoing the human-testing phase. "A young volunteer of Wuhan, the epicenter of the epidemic was in charge of the ambulance vehicle. Now that the epidemic has receded, he has another mission. He is one of the first clinical research volunteers for the new coronavirus vaccine and he will enter a 14-day medical observation, " reported Radio China. According to the report, the covid-19 vaccine will enter clinical tests in April. The vaccine with virus-like particles have produced specific antibodies in immune experiments in mice, said Yi Chengdong, deputy director of the Shanghai Municipal Health Commission. According to the Radio China report, vaccine toxicity studies have been carried out on animals. "VLP vaccines, an effective, safe, and affordable type of vaccine have multi-protein structures that can limit the organization and conformation of viruses," said the report. Meanwhile, three new products for detecting the new coronavirus have been clinically approved and applied in Shanghai, according to Zhang Quan, director of the municipality's science and technology commission.
