China delivers more
medical supply donation to Social SecurityBy the A.M. Costa Rica staff On Friday, the Chinese Embassy announced the delivery of the second donation of medical supplies to Social Security. "We receive this donation gratefully from the People's Republic of China," said Román Macaya Hayes, president of Social Security. "This shows, once again, the great solidarity between our countries, even more so in these difficult times we face the covid-19 and that implies a challenge for the international community in which the countries must work together. ” According to the Chinese embassy, more donations will be delivered in the coming days. "In addition to what we have delivered so far, the Central Government of China, several provinces and sister cities are planning new donations to support the Costa Rican people in their fight against covid-19, the details of which will be announced later," said Tang Heng ambassador from China in Costa Rica. According to Heng, the community of Chinese residents made various donations of medical supplies to local health institutions. The donation of supplies including: 100,000 surgical masks, 10,080 medical test kits to determine if a person is infected or not with the 2019-nCov., 5 continuous positive pressure airway machines that will provide light and stable pressure of air in the airways to keep them open. According to the embassy, donations were made through the Jack Ma and Alibaba Foundations. ![]() Last week the Chinese Embassy delivered the first shipment of medical supplies donated to Social Security. According to the embassy, 2,500 covid-19 test kits, known as PCRs produced by the Chinese company BGI Group were delivered as the first part of the donation of supplies to the country. These test kits are licensed by the Chinese National Administration of Medical Products and approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, FDA, said the Chinese Embassy in their statement. "We reemphasize our solidarity with the Costa Rican people in this gunless war against covid-19," said a representative from the Chinese embassy. "Together we will conquer the pandemic!" The first case of coronavirus covid-19 was detected in the city of Wuhan, Hubei Province, China in Dec. 2019. As of Sunday, the country reported 81,669 people infected with the coronavirus and 3,329 patients died. China is the second country that provided donations to Social Security to face the covid-19 pandemic. ![]() Last week, the U.S. government delivered the first of two donations. According to the U.S. Embassy, the donation was made through a Southern Command, SOUTHCOM, humanitarian assistance program. The donation valued at $75,000 consists of personal protective equipment purchased from local suppliers in Costa Rica, such as surgical masks, isolation gowns, surgical gloves, goggles, and N-95 medical masks.
