Costa Rican infected with covid-19

By the A.M. Costa Rica staff

On Monday, officers from the Air Surveillance Service and the Red Cross arrived in a humanitarian aid flight to bring a Costa Rican infected with covid-19 from Panama.

The patient is a 67-year-old man who is in a serious condition due to a stroke. His transfer was highly complex, said Social Security. He was hospitalized in the Santo Tomás hospital in Panama, and transferred to the San Rafael Hospital in Alajuela Province once in the country.

According to Social Security, the team of specialists to attend to the patient during the trip was an emergency specialist, a nurse, and a Red Cross doctor. The crew included 2 pilots and an aeronautical maintenance technician.

All parties involved, including the patient, the specialists and the crew, took preventive measures due to the risk of covid-19 infection, Social Security said in its statement.

This is the second time that the Government authorized a special humanitarian aid entry of people infected with covid-19 to the country.

In May, the government allowed four Cubans from Nicaragua, who asked for refuge, to enter the country. All given the covid-19 diagnosis test, resulting in positive for the virus.

According to the authorities, the four Cubans received a sanitary order to maintain isolation for two weeks in their homes.

According to the Health Ministry, as of Monday afternoon, there was an increase of 29 new cases of patients infected with covid-19, bringing the total to 961 active cases.

Authorities provided the following statistics of the evolution of the virus in the country:

• The ages of those infected range from a three-month-old baby to a 92-year-old.

• 771 coronavirus patients have fully recovered.

• 19 patients are being treated in public hospitals, where 15 are in recovery rooms and 4 have been reported in an Intensive Care Unit, ICU, with delicate health conditions. Most of the infected patients are quarantined in their homes.

• 447 foreigners infected. That is equal to 46% of active patients.

• 20,607 people have been ruled out.

• 32,510 medical covid-19 tests have been made.

• 12 deaths have been reported from patients infected with covid-19 since March, three women and nine men.

The updated number of total patients in each district can be reached at the National Distance Education University on its
Covid-19 Map.

As of Tuesday morning, the pandemic has killed 436,319 patients worldwide, according to recent statistics reported by the Center for Systems Science and Engineering (CSSE) at Johns Hopkins University.
